Q: How long is the program?

A: It is a 9 week program consisting of 22 classroom hours.

Q: Where are the
classes held?

A: Currently, classes are being held at St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon, PA, but we plan to expand into other locations in 2010.

Q: Are the classes held in the daytime or the evening?

A: We offer classes during daytime and evening hours. The start of every session begins on a Saturday morning and the consecutive classes will follow in the daytime or the evening depending upon which class you sign up for.

Q: How long are the classes?

A: The weekday and evening classes are one and a half to two hours in length.

Q: Is the program covered by insurance?

A: At this time providers are generally not covering weight loss programs. However, some companies may cover wellness programs.

Q: Do you have an affiliation with any gyms?

A: We do not affiliate with any gyms. Our clients utilize the equipment at their disposal.

Q: Are there men in the classes?

A: Our clients consist of men and women.

Q: What ages is this program appropriate for?

A: Our clients include adults in their twenties to those in their senior years. The program is not designed for children.

Q: Are there support classes after the initial nine week program?

A: Continuing Support classes are available after the initial nine weeks. They are scheduled in six session blocks and meet every other week for one and a half hours.

Q: Do you provide any food, supplements, or herbal products?

A: The Wise-About-Weight program is a balanced, comprehensive program that does not rely on any supplements. Wise-About-Weight does not sell any products.

Q: Is there a “public” weigh-in required?

A: No. It is our practice to have you weigh yourself weekly and record the result on a card in a file box. There is a scale and tape measure available in a private corner of the classroom. We do not ever announce your weight results in class. In addition, we ask you to measure and calculate your waist to hip ratio three times over the 9 week program.

Q: What amount of weight loss should I expect?

A: The goal of this program is to improve your health. A weight loss of 5% can improve your health. Weight loss varies by individual. The goal of the program is a half pound to two pounds of weight loss per week. Reasonable and consistent weight loss is more maintainable than a large, quick drop of weight.

Q: Is there additional work outside of the classroom?

A: The classes provide information about improving your nutrition, increasing your physical activity, and changing your thoughts and behaviors. Your lifework (not homework) is to practice the tips and techniques that we cover in class in order to create a lasting lifestyle change.

Q: How will my doctor be involved with the program?

A: Wise-About-Weight encourages physician participation. With your permission your physician will receive notification when you enroll as well as periodic updates from the program on how you are progressing. At a certain point in the program, you will be asked to schedule a visit with your physician to discuss your progress.

Q: What if my physician is not participating?

A: You will still be able to participate. With your permission we will contact your physician and keep them updated on your progress.
